Hashiguchi Goyō

Hashiguchi Goyō

Hashiguchi Goyō  (1881–1921) was a Japanese artist renowned for his modern and sensual portraits of women, earning him the title “the Utamaro of the Taishō era.” Trained in both Japanese and Western painting, he later became a key figure in the Shin-hanga movement with works like Woman in the Bath (1915). Though he died young at 41, he left behind a small yet highly refined body of woodblock prints that continue to be admired today.
