Shin-Bijutsukai
Shin Bijutsukai (新美術海) is a renowned Japanese design series published in Kyoto between 1902 and around 1906. Edited by Furuya Kōrin and supervised by Kamisaka Sekka, the series presents elegant decorative patterns inspired by nature and produced using traditional multicolour woodblock printing.
These designs combine the aesthetics of the Rinpa school with the flowing forms of Art Nouveau, making Shin Bijutsukaione of the most influential sources of Japanese pattern design from the Meiji period.
